Can we talk about inspection no-shows wasting everyone's time?
Had an inspector schedule a visit for a new circuit install, but he never showed up. I sat there for two hours with a frustrated client, and my next job got pushed back. Do you charge for wait time when it's not your fault?

Charging the client for an inspector's mistake just burns your good will with them. They're already upset about the delay, and then you hit them with a fee? Seems like a good way to lose a customer over something that wasn't your fault either.

Waiting for an inspector who never shows is like watching paint dry... but less fun. Sat in my truck for two hours once, client was fuming. I've started adding a wait time charge to my quotes now, just in case. It's the only way to make up for lost time... still feels awkward to bill for it though. But what else can you do when your whole schedule gets thrown off?

Yeah, adding that wait time charge is a must, @the_piper. I got stuck for three hours once because an inspector had car trouble. Had to call my next client and delay them, which made me look bad. Now I bill for any wait over 90 minutes. It cuts down on the frustration and pays for the lost time. Still feels weird to invoice for sitting around, but like you said, what else can you do?
