Had to choose between a new hoistway door lock or just the solenoid on a 90s Otis

Went with the full lock assembly because the old one had worn rollers. It added about 40 minutes to the job, but the alignment is perfect now. Anyone else find the whole unit swap is often worth the extra time on those older models?

Ever try to just bend the old bracket back? That's a trap. Whole unit is the only way to go on those.

Remember my buddy trying to save time on a Gen2 just doing the solenoid? He fought that door for half a day trying to get the latch to catch right. The old bracket was just a hair bent, and the new part wouldn't sit flush. He ended up going back for the whole assembly anyway. Sometimes that extra bit of new hardware just makes everything line up like it should.

Totally the right call. Swapping the whole thing saves so much headache later. Those old rollers always seem to be the real problem.

Wait, Mark's friend spent half a day on a bent bracket? That's brutal. Paige is right, just swap the whole thing and be done with it.
