Shoutout to that one door switch that finally gave up on me
I had an Otis elevator in a 12-story office building in Phoenix acting up all last week, doors cycling open and closed for no reason. Turned out to be a crusty door zone switch that I'd passed over three times because the contacts looked fine from the outside. Has anyone else had a seemingly good component just fail in a weird way like that?

Hate it when that happens. I've had relays that looked perfect on the outside but had hairline cracks in the solder joints that only showed up after I tapped them with a screwdriver. Drove me crazy for two days on a mid-rise in Scottsdale.

Had one on a two-story residential job in Tucson last spring that was doing the exact same thing. Was a DPDT relay for the pool equipment panel, everything checked out fine on the meter but the pump would randomly stop running. Turned out to be a cold solder joint on one of the NC terminals. Took me three trips out there before I finally tapped it with the handle of my screwdriver and it clicked.
