Tried that viral 'lemon and baking soda' cleaning trick on my oven... what a mess
Saw a TikTok where someone just sprinkled baking soda and squeezed lemon juice over burnt on oven grime, left it for 20 minutes, then wiped it clean. Tried it yesterday on my own oven after a lasagna spill last Tuesday. All I got was a sticky, chunky paste that hardened like concrete and took me an hour with a scraper to chip off. Did I do something wrong or is this just another internet lie?
Made the same mistake with my oven last month. The baking soda and lemon juice turned into cement almost immediately. I had a casserole dish overflow that was already baked on from Thanksgiving. Ended up using a razor blade and a lot of swearing. The TikTok people must be filming right after they apply it, because there's no way that stuff wipes off clean after 20 minutes. Mine looked like someone dropped a pound of cottage cheese on the bottom rack and let it bake for a year.
Four to six hours is what most of the "life hack" videos suggest letting it sit, but my baking soda paste turned into a solid brick after twenty minutes on a grease stain from a lasagna spill. @pat781, did you try scraping it while it was still wet, or did you let it dry out like I did? I ended up with a layer of crust that I had to chip off with a butter knife, and it scratched the hell out of the enamel. It made the whole mess worse because those scratches just trap more food now.
