Unpopular opinion: that electric car battery replacement cost math doesn't add up online
I saw a viral post last month claiming it costs $20k to swap out an EV battery after 8 years. But I checked with a mechanic buddy in Phoenix who works on EVs every day. He told me most warranties cover 8 years or 100k miles anyway, and real world replacement for a Chevy Bolt runs closer to $5k-$7k out of pocket. Then I found a study from the Department of Energy that said battery prices dropped 89% since 2010. So that fear mongering post from 3 years ago just doesn't hold up with current numbers. Has anyone else dug into these cost claims?

Good points but is this really something most people need to worry about? By the time the battery goes bad you've probably already saved enough on gas to cover the cost anyway. Feels like the internet loves to freak out over edge cases that don't apply to 95% of drivers.
