Question about setting a post in a tight corner in Charleston

I was setting a 4x4 in a back corner with only 18 inches of clearance and the auger bit jammed on a root, so I had to hand-dig the last foot with a digging bar and a small trenching shovel to get it set right.

Man, I feel that pain in my soul. I once spent a whole afternoon in a spot like that, came out looking like I lost a fight with a mud monster. The digging bar becomes your best friend and your worst enemy at the same time, lol. You just get into this weird zone of pure stubbornness, swearing at roots and promising yourself you'll never do it again.

Ever try a reciprocating saw with a pruning blade for roots?

Sounds like you had a real party back there. I can feel that back pain just reading it... @the_sam, a sawzall would have been a dream, but good luck even getting it into that space. That's the kind of job where you just accept the suffering and make friends with your digging bar.
