Unpopular opinion: I used to think my social media was separate from my job

Back in like 2018, I'd post whatever on my personal accounts, jokes about work, political stuff, the whole deal. I figured it was my private life, you know? Then a guy at my old company, a mid-level manager, got let go because someone found his old tweets where he was arguing with people about a local election. The company said it 'didn't align with their values' even though it was from years before he worked there. That was the moment for me. Now, I don't post anything even remotely work-related, and I've locked my accounts down to private. I even went back and deleted a bunch of old posts from college that were just dumb jokes. It feels like you can't have an opinion online anymore without it being a work risk. Has anyone else completely changed how they use social media because of stories like this?

It's crazy how we all have to self-censor now. I basically treat my public profile like a work bio.

Yeah, treating my public profile like a work bio is about right. My last three tweets are just pictures of my dog, a retweet about the weather, and a link to a boring article I had to share for a class. My actual thoughts are locked in a notes app somewhere.

Locked in a notes app" is so real, I started a second private account just to scream into.
