Skeptical about that new ceramic foam filter for aluminum, but it saved a $5000 pour.

The foreman insisted we try it on a big engine block mold. Zero shrinkage defects, which we always got before. Anyone run into problems with these filters clogging up?

Has anyone checked the filter after the pour? I had a bad clog once that caused a cold shut. It worked great for defects, but you have to be sure the metal is hot enough and clean. If it clogs, the flow can get too slow.

Yeah that "bad clog" line hits home. I used to skip checking the filter after a pour, figured if it ran it was fine. But finding a totally blocked one after a cold shut showed me exactly how the flow got too slow. Now I crack it open every time, it's part of my routine.

Man, I was the king of "it's probably fine" for way too long. I once ignored a filter so long the metal basically turned into a weird, sad sculpture in there. Took me an hour to chisel it out, felt like a real genius that day.
