Unpopular opinion: I'm glad I never left my part-time job for full-time freelancing
For years I bought into the idea that you have to go solo completely to be a real freelancer. I mean, all the gurus make it sound like any other income is a crutch. Then I watched a friend crash and burn after quitting her stable office role too fast. She was so stressed about money that her creative work suffered big time. Keeping my weekend shifts at the bookstore gives me a safety net that lets me choose projects I love. Without that backup, I'd probably say yes to every cheap offer out of fear. Honestly, changing my view on this has kept my freelance life calm and actually fun.

Seriously! My buddy did the same with his cafe shifts.

That "calm and actually fun" part is so true.

Last Friday at the community garden... the sun was setting and the temperature dropped just right. We were just watering plants and talking, but it felt so relaxed and enjoyable. That's the calm fun you mentioned... it doesn't need to be big, just simple and good. Makes a long week worth it.
