My smart fridge tried to order me a new car last Tuesday
I was making coffee when my fridge screen lit up with a 'congratulations on your new vehicle purchase' message. Turns out it heard me joking about needing a new car and somehow linked to my shopping account. I spent the whole morning on the phone with customer service to cancel a $32,000 electric sedan order. Honestly, what happens when our appliances start making big decisions without us? Has anyone else had their smart home go rogue like this?

See, I actually like when my stuff tries to help. My smart speaker reorders coffee when it hears me complain I'm out, and it's a lifesaver. Maybe the problem isn't the tech, but how we set it up. Like @grant478 said, it feels like trouble, but only if you give everything full access to your bank account. My fridge can't buy anything, but it can add stuff to a list I check later. It's about finding the right balance, not getting rid of it all.

Oh man, that's terrifying. Next thing you know, your thermostat will book you a vacation because it heard you say you're cold. We're giving these things way too much access.
