Remember when you had to call a dozen places to find a plumber?

In 2015, my water heater broke and I spent a whole morning calling numbers from the phone book. Now, I just tap an app and a local pro's rating and price pop up in 30 seconds. Will we even have phone books or business cards in another ten years?

My local library stopped stocking phone books last year. They said nobody had asked for one in over two years.

Damn, that reminds me of the time I tried to find a plumber during a storm when my internet went out. Flipped through an old phone book I had in a closet, and every single number was disconnected or out of service. Felt like I was holding a brick of useless history. It's wild how fast that stuff becomes totally pointless. I ended up having to drive to the gas station to use their wifi like some kind of animal.

I remember the last time I used a phone book was probably 2015 to prop up a wobbly table leg. It's kind of sad though, because they were a free way for anyone to find local businesses or people without needing internet or a smartphone. I mean, what about older folks on a fixed income who can't afford a data plan? Maybe it's just me, but getting rid of them assumes everyone is online now, and that's not really true.
