Can we talk about how I used to just trust the star rating on a review site before buying a gadget?

After buying a cheap fitness tracker that broke in 2 months, I now always read at least three full reviews from different sources to check for common complaints about build quality.

My aunt bought this fancy blender based on five stars, but the lid cracked the first time she used it. The reviews all said it was quiet and powerful, but nobody mentioned the cheap plastic parts. She had to tape it shut for a week while waiting for a replacement, it was a whole mess. Now she looks for videos of people actually using stuff before she buys.

Honestly, that part about the fitness tracker breaking so fast is exactly why I stopped trusting just the star rating. Tbh, I got burned on some cheap headphones with great reviews that fell apart. Now I always dig into the one and two star reviews first, they tell you the real story about stuff breaking. It takes more time but it saves so much money and hassle.

The one star reviews are usually the most honest.
