Update: That robot vacuum review turned into a weekly time saver for me.

I was testing a budget robot vacuum and it actually kept my floors clean all week. Some reviewers say these things are pointless for small spaces. But I found it freed up hours I'd spend sweeping. Do you think smart home gadgets are worth it for everyone?

Claire_Singh56 is right about trading chores. My neighbor's fancy vacuum kept getting stuck on a rug, so he had to move it every time. At that point you're just doing a different, more annoying job.

Did you have to clear clutter off the floor first, or did it handle that okay? I've used a few of these, and the setup is key. If a gadget saves you regular chores, it's usually worth the cost. But for some people, the hassle of learning new tech isn't worth it. It depends on how much you value your time versus the upfront effort. For small spaces, a simple model might do the job without breaking the bank.

Oh yeah, @jamesf29 is totally right about setup. I had to pick up a few stray cables, but after that it was fine. The thing just sort of bumps into stuff and figures it out.

Ever notice how many things are like this now? Like that time you buy a meal kit to save cooking time but spend an hour just figuring out the packaging. It feels like every shortcut needs its own setup manual first. Makes you wonder if we're just trading one chore for another, but with more confusing instructions.
