It took me 6 months to realize my smart thermostat was making my heating bill worse
I got one of those Nest knockoffs last winter and kept wondering why my gas bill jumped $80 a month. Turns out the 'learning' feature was turning on the heat whenever I walked past a room, even if I was just grabbing a coat. My neighbor told me last week to check the schedule and I found it had set 12 different temperature changes a day. Has anyone else had a smart home gadget do the exact opposite of what you wanted?

Wait, did yours actually learn your dog's movements? That's wild. My buddy got one of those fancy ecobee things for his apartment and it kept cranking the AC down every time his cat jumped on the couch. He thought he was saving money but his electric bill doubled in July. He finally figured it out when he came home from work one day and the apartment was freezing because his cat had been sleeping on the couch all afternoon. He ended up just turning off all the motion sensing stuff and set it to a basic schedule. Works fine now, but he still jokes that his cat had better electricity management than he did.

My neighbor had the same issue with his Nest and his golden retriever. @the_drew your buddy's cat story is gold cause that's exactly the kinda nonsense these things pull.

lol mine did the same thing. My dog kept setting it off just walking around the house.
