Told a restoration crew that vinyl gloves mess up handling old glass
Everyone on site uses them for grip, but I find bare hands give better control on delicate edges. When I fixed a crack they all missed, the foreman had to admit my way worked, even if it looked odd.

Your bare hands tip is right, I sense glass flaws gloves would mask.

Nathan's bare hands tip has me shook. I mean, running fingers over glass without gloves sounds crazy to me. Idk, maybe it's just me but that seems super risky after Blair mentioned razor edges. I get that gloves might hide some flaws, but cutting yourself isn't worth it. I've seen people get bad cuts from less, so I'm always team gloves or cotton balls. Just feels like playing with fire, you know?

You run your fingers along the edge or just press on the glass? I use a cotton ball, snags on tiny cracks you'd never feel. Smart call, @nathan_hall44, just watch for those razor edges so you're not filling out blood paperwork later.

Cotton balls snagging is a good trick but it's still a barrier. You're adding a layer between your sense of touch and the glass. That's the whole point. Feeling the surface directly with your skin picks up the slightest texture change a cotton fiber would glide right over. The risk is real but so is missing a hairline fracture. You learn to handle edges with a light touch, not a grip. It's a skill, not just being reckless.
