Took me 6 months to learn competitive worm charming isn't about speed

I showed up to my first worm charming competition in Oregon thinking you just had to pull worms out fast. Spent 3 hours vibrating a pitchfork in the mud and only got 4 worms while the winner pulled 47. Turns out you gotta match the frequency of earthworm movement, not just shake harder. Took me another 5 months of practicing in my backyard at 6am before I finally figured out the right rhythm. Anyone else waste time on a hidden hobby by missing the obvious technique at first?

My friend spent two years competing before someone told him you have to tap the ground, not stab it.

My friend did the same thing for a whole season. He was stabbing the ground so hard his poles were getting bent out of shape. Someone finally pulled him aside and showed him the difference, it was like a light bulb went off. Tapping is so much smoother and saves your arms for the rest of the race.
