The coffee shop punch card thing finally clicked for me last month
I used to just toss those little paper punch cards from Starbucks and local spots into my glovebox, never looking twice at them. Then I counted up the stamps from the last six months at Brew & Bean on 5th Street and realized I'd left about $45 worth of free drinks sitting there. Now I keep a photo of my active punch cards in my phone's notes app, and I actually check it before I order with friends. Anyone else have a system for not forgetting those loyalty programs?
Oh man, I read somewhere that people lose out on like $20-30 a year just from forgetting those punch cards in their car. lol I do the same thing with my phone now, I take a pic right when I get the card and add it to a folder so I actually remember to use it. It's crazy how easy it is to leave free stuff on the table just because you're not thinking about it in the moment.
Piggybacking on what @ward.jamie said about snapping photos, I started doing the same thing and it actually works. The trick is to also set a reminder on your phone for like a week later so you don't just forget the photo exists. That little habit has saved me probably a dozen free drinks over the past year.
@ward.jamie is right about leaving money on the table... I lost a whole free iced latte last month because I forgot my punch card at home. The barista was nice about it though, just laughed and said "next time" which made me feel even worse honestly. Now I keep a little magnet on my fridge with all the current cards clipped together so I see them when I grab my keys. It's ridiculous how many times I've walked past a punch card in my car and just... not grabbed it. My glovebox is basically a graveyard for forgotten loyalty programs at this point.
