Rant: That abandoned gas station off Route 9 gave me the creeps tonight

I drove past that old Shell station near the county line around 2am, the one that's been closed for like 5 years. Something felt off about it tonight, I swear I saw a light flickering inside near the back office. Pulled over to check it out cause I'm dumb like that (my boyfriend says I have no survival instincts). The front doors were chained shut but there was a fresh footprint in the mud by the side entrance. I noped out of there fast after that, but now I'm home and can't stop thinking about it. Has anyone else noticed weird activity at abandoned places around here late at night?

Followed that same footprint thing one time at an old barn outside town. Found a pile of fresh cigarette butts and a half empty water bottle, figured some kids were using it as a hangout. But the really weird part was the basement door, that sucker was padlocked from both sides which doesn't make any sense unless someone was keeping something in or out. Your mileage may vary but I wouldn't poke around that gas station alone.

Hold on though, padlocked from both sides just means someone was storing something valuable or dangerous, not necessarily something paranormal. You found cigarette butts and a water bottle, so people are clearly getting in there somehow. What if the padlock on the inside is just a decoy or a safety thing to keep the door from swinging open? That gas station basement is probably just full of old boxes and dust, same as any other abandoned place. You're jumping to the spooky conclusion when the simplest answer is usually just bored teenagers or a paranoid owner.
