Vent: My dad told me to "always check the air" 15 years ago and I shrugged it off
He meant in my tires, not the weather or anything deep. I ignored him for years until I blew a tire on I-5 doing 70 and realized I hadn't checked pressure in like 8 months. Anyone else have a piece of simple advice they brushed off that came back to bite them?

Man, that's a good one. It's crazy how the most boring, simple advice is usually the stuff that saves your butt later. I read a study once that said our brains treat most routine maintenance like background noise until there's a crisis, which explains why I ignored checking my oil for a year. @the_anthony nailed it, the people who have their act together are just better at dealing with that boring background noise before it turns into a real fire.

Hang on though, maybe the people who check their tire pressure every month aren't actually any more put together. Sometimes focusing on that tiny boring stuff just gives you a false sense of control while you ignore the bigger things actually falling apart.
