Appreciation post: The barber who told me straight up I was doing my beard wrong
I was at Frank's Barbershop on Main Street last October, getting a haircut like I've done for 15 years, and without warning Frank just stopped mid-trim and told me I been shaving my neckline way too high. He showed me on his phone a diagram of where the Adam's apple should be the boundary, and honestly it made my beard look twice as full after just a week of letting it grow. Has anyone else had a service pro just totally change how you do something basic like this?

Cora (@calebc40) please tell me you went back and tried it - Frank is absolutely right about the Adam's apple thing. A barber in my town told me the same thing two years ago and it changed my whole face shape (not kidding). I had been carving my neckline up to my jawbone like a total amateur, thinking it looked clean. Let it drop down to just above the Adam's apple and suddenly my beard actually connected to my sideburns instead of looking like two separate patches (wish I had known this in my 20s).

Man that's wild because I used to be the opposite, I always thought the higher neckline looked cleaner and more intentional. But yeah after seeing a friend do the lower line thing and actually seeing how much fuller their beard looked I totally changed my mind on it. It's one of those things where you don't realize you've been making it worse until someone actually shows you the right way. Kinda makes me wanna go find a barber who'll just be straight up with me about everything I'm doing wrong.
