Noticed my neighbor's lawn went from brown to green in 3 weeks
Mrs. Patterson down the street had the saddest yard on our block all summer - patchy brown spots everywhere. Then about a month ago I saw her out there with a little hose attachment and some bucket of stuff. Now her grass is thick and dark green while mine still looks rough. She told me she just watered deeper and used some liquid iron treatment from Ace Hardware. What are you all using to get your lawns looking good before winter hits?

Is that liquid iron stuff safe to use if you got dogs that run around on the lawn? My neighbor mentioned something about rust stains on concrete too which makes me nervous about hitting the sidewalk or driveway when I spray it. I've been holding off because I don't want to mess up the shared walkway between our houses or have my golden retriever tracking weird stains inside. Also how much did you actually mix in with the hose sprayer cause the directions on those bottles are always confusing and I don't want to burn the grass by overdoing it. Feels like every lawn product has a sweet spot between helping and ruining everything.

Water that stuff down more than you think you need to, @park.miles, and keep the dogs off until it dries completely, like an hour or two, and you should be good. Rust stains on concrete are real annoying to scrub off, so I just tape a trash bag over the nozzle and spray really careful near any hard surfaces. It's the same deal with every lawn product honestly, you find that sweet spot by screwing up a little and adjusting.

I saw this thing on YouTube from some lawn care guy who said most people water too often but not deep enough. He recommended doing like 1 inch of water once a week instead of a little bit every day. I tried it on my front patch and it actually helped the roots go deeper. Also read somewhere that iron is the secret for that dark green color without pushing a ton of nitrogen growth. I grabbed a bottle of liquid iron at Home Depot for like 12 bucks and mixed it with my hose sprayer. My lawn isn't perfect yet but it's way better than those brown patches I had in August.
