I chose the steady county job over the tour guide gig in Juneau

Everyone told me I was crazy to turn down guiding glacier hikes for a 9-to-5 in a basement office, but after three seasons of living paycheck to paycheck off tips, I picked the boring desk with health insurance. Has anyone else here traded a dream job for stability and actually felt good about it?

Better to be bored with benefits than broke with stories.

Wait, is this really some big life or death choice? You picked a steady check over seasonal work in Alaska, seems like common sense to me.

You ever have that moment where you realize your life is basically a running joke with bad punchlines? Yeah, that's me right now. I worked seasonal in Alaska once, and let me tell you, my idea of "roughing it" is when the coffee maker breaks. I'd probably end up paying someone else to survive for me, so the steady check is honestly my best bet at not becoming a cautionary tale on some survival show.
