Strung my hammock between two pine trees only to wake up covered in sap and pine needles at 3am
I learned that you need to check for sap drips before setting up, not after, because that sticky mess took 20 minutes with rubbing alcohol to get off my rain fly, has anyone else had a campsite surprise like that?
My first trip out I set up under a half-dead oak and woke up with a branch the size of my arm lying across my tent at 4am. Scared me half to death. @paulw53 your raccoon story reminds me of the time I left a cooler unlatched and woke up to a whole family of them opening and closing the lid like it was a toy. The sound of that plastic latch clicking back and forth every few seconds was maddening.
That reminds me of the time I hung a tarp over my tent and woke up with a family of raccoons staring at me from the tree branch above. They had somehow found the only bag of chips I left in the car, brought it up there, and were tossing wrappers at my tent like it was a game.
