Went with Hawk HP+ pads over EBC Yellows for my track Miata and the rotor wear is brutal

Was torn between these two for my 97 Miata after I cooked my stock pads at CMP last month. Picked the Hawks because everyone online swore they had better bite when cold. They do stop hard, no argument there. But after just two track days and maybe 500 street miles my front rotors look chewed up with grooves. Buddy with the EBCs on his S2000 has way less wear. Anyone else deal with this or did I just get a bad batch?

Caught a coworker using the same Hawks on his STI and his rotors looked like a cheese grater after one autox event. He swapped to the EBCs mid-season and said the pedal feel was actually softer but the rotors stayed smooth as glass. Me personally I ran the HP+ on my old Prelude back in the day and they were fine but that car was like 500lbs lighter than your Miata lol. Maybe the extra weight transfer on the Miata just beats up whatever rotor you pair them with?

Yeah I read somewhere the Hawks just eat rotors on lighter cars, same thing @gavin228 said.

That line about the rotors looking like a cheese grater is exactly what I saw on my 95. I ran HP+ for three events and my front rotors had those deep grooves too. My buddy talked me into trying the EBC Yellows on his recommendation and I swapped them in before my next track day. Pedal feel is definitely a bit softer like your coworker said but my rotors stayed smooth for four events after that with no issues. I also switched to Centric blank rotors at the same time and they held up way better than the OEM ones I was running before.
