That one Tuesday where everything went wrong at the tire shop
Last week I dropped my car off at the local Big O Tires on Oak Street for a simple rotation and balance. They called me at 3pm saying I needed new rear brakes too which added $280 to the bill. Then I got a flat on the way home from picking it up because they forgot to tighten the lug nuts on the passenger side. I had to pull over on the freeway and call my brother to bring me a jack. Has anyone else had a shop mess up something basic like that and then act like it was no big deal?

And it's always the simple jobs too. I once had a guy replace an air filter and he somehow left a shop rag stuffed down in the intake, car ran like garbage for two weeks before I found it.

It's the "no big deal" part that gets me. That's the modern service industry in a nutshell: you pay them to do a job, they mess it up, and suddenly you're the inconvenience for pointing it out. I had a plumber leave a wrench in my wall once, sealed it up with drywall and everything. When I called, he acted like I should be grateful he left me a free tool. At some point, basic competence started counting as a premium feature instead of the baseline expectation.
