That viral video claiming dry ice in a cooler can explode like a bomb? Not buying it.
My buddy swears he saw a video where someone sealed dry ice in a cheap cooler from Walmart and it blew the lid off like shrapnel. But I've used dry ice for camping trips in Colorado for years with no issues. I called a guy at the local ice supply store who said the pressure would need to be insane to rupture a cooler like that. Anyone got a real source or is this just internet fear-mongering?

Hit up a physics subreddit and ask them about sublimation rates in insulated containers. The real danger isn't the pressure popping the lid, it's the cold turning the plastic shatter-prone so a small hit cracks it.

My moving crew once sealed a cooler so tight we couldn't open it for lunch, but at least we didn't test your bomb theory.

Yeah I'm not sure my sandwich is worth testing the shatter point of a cooler for either.
