The "Historic" diner on Main Street is a total lie
Went to that place everyone calls the oldest diner in town. The one with the vintage sign and black and white photos on the wall. Asked the owner when it opened. He admitted it was built in 2004. They just bought old furniture from a flea market. Anyone got proof of what actually stood there before?

Guess I'm the last person to figure that out, I actually told my friend the pie there "tastes like it's from 1950 something" and he just stared at me. My own nostalgia filter is that strong I guess, I'll believe anything with a checkered floor. Take this with a grain of salt but maybe the real historic thing is how fast we fall for a good story and a neon sign.

Wait, does that mean I've been bragging about that "vintage 1952 coffee" I had there to anyone who would listen for the last six months? Yeah, that's on me. I think I just wanted to feel like I had discovered some hidden gem, so I convinced myself the whole place was authentic. The checkered floor and the old-timey jukebox probably did half the work for me. Honestly, I'm just as bad as the tourists who take pictures of the "historic" soda fountain and post it like they found a time capsule. At least now I know I'm just a sucker for a good story and a beat-up counter.

Not gonna lie, that's a fair point about the neon sign doing a lot of heavy lifting. Makes you wonder how many other "classic diners" are just playing dress-up with a good marketing budget, doesn't it? What's the line between preserving a real piece of history and just selling tickets to a theme park version of the past? Because I feel like half the places I've been to lately have the same beat-up counter stools and the same old-timey signs from the same catalog.
