My dad told me to 'just use wd40 on everything' and i finally got humbled by a seized lawnmower blade

I always laughed at the old man saying WD40 fixes anything, but last weekend I spent 45 minutes fighting a rusted bolt on my Craftsman mower. After three busted knuckles and a cracked socket, I grabbed his can of Liquid Wrench instead and the thing loosened up in 30 seconds flat. Turns out the right tool for the job actually matters, who knew? Has anyone else had a family member give you advice that was just plain wrong?

Haha, guess your dad and WD40 are both a little rusty on the details.

Oh man, I actually think the real issue here is that WD40 isn't even really a lubricant, it's more of a water displacer and light cleaner. So your dad wasn't totally wrong for general stuff, but for something seized and rusted, it never stood a chance against a proper penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster.

Is it really that deep though? Pretty sure WD40 has freed up more rusty bolts than any fancy oil ever will.
