Am I the only one who tried switching to cloth napkins and ended up with a dryer full of lint balls?

I thought I was saving money and helping the planet but after 3 washes my dryer vent nearly caught fire and now I'm wondering if paper towels were the real eco-friendly choice all along because they don't create a fire hazard, so which side are you on team reusable or team disposable?

My buddy Steve went full homestead mode during lockdown, bought 40 linen napkins and a wicker basket for used ones. After two weeks his wife found him on the kitchen floor untangling a massive knot of napkins from the washing machine agitator, like some kind of fabric octopus had taken over the laundry room. He ended up using them as rags for his car and went back to paper towels. Last I heard he still finds lint in his lint trap that looks like dryer tumbleweeds from that experiment. The kicker is his kid's soccer team now calls him "napkin guy" because he showed up to a game with a stained cloth napkin to wipe his face instead of a regular towel.

Oh MAN this is such a classic case of lockdown hobbies going off the rails! I totally get the appeal of wanting to be all eco-friendly and fancy with linen napkins but Steve's story is basically a cautionary tale. @park.miles your buddy sounds like my sister who tried to start a kombucha SCOBY during the same period and ended up with this weird alien blob floating in a jar on her counter for like 6 months before she finally threw it out. The napkin thing is especially funny cause I swear cloth napkins are a TRAP once they get tangled in the wash they never come out the same. Steve being called "napkin guy" by a bunch of kids is the PERFECT ending to this though. I guess some experiments just leave you with lint tumbleweeds and a new nickname you never asked for.
