Spent $600 on a fancy espresso machine, still can't make a decent cup

Bought a used La Marzocco Linea Mini off Craigslist last summer, thought I was getting a steal from some rich guy in the suburbs. After three months of burnt shots and sour pulls, I sunk another $200 in parts and a tech to fix a clogged boiler. Tell me, did I just buy someone else's headache or am I missing some secret trick to dialing these things in?

@jamie804 is totally right, the grinder is half the battle and probably the real culprit here. I burned through a bag of $25 beans before accepting my old blade grinder was making everything undrinkable. Once I grabbed a decent used grinder off OfferUp, it was like learning a whole new machine.

Did you ever try roasting your own beans after that? It sounds crazy but once you get a decent grinder, even cheap green beans from a local shop can taste better than expensive pre-roasted stuff. I started doing it in a popcorn maker and it saved me a ton of money plus the coffee was way fresher lol.

Try lighter roasts. Your grinder might be the real problem.
