Changed my mind about AI upscaling after seeing RoboCop at the Alamo Drafthouse

Saw the 4K remaster of RoboCop at the Alamo in Austin last week. The grain looked natural, not smoothed out, and the explosions still had that 80s grit. Convinced me the right remaster can beat any fan-made AI job. Anyone else had a theater showing flip your opinion on a remaster?

My wallet's still mad I bought that fancy AI upscaler last year.

Did you actually see a noticeable difference after using it, or was it more of a placebo effect? I dropped cash on a "lifetime license" for one of those video enhancers a couple years back, and honestly most of the time I can't tell if it's doing anything at all. Your mileage may vary of course, but sometimes the hype just doesn't match the reality.

The 4K remaster at the Alamo used a 4K scan of the original camera negative, not an AI upscale. That's a huge difference. Did you ask the projectionist if they were running the actual DCP or some alternate file? I've heard some theaters cheap out and use a compressed version that defeats the whole point.
