Hot take: the new Child's Play reboot ruined Chucky's whole vibe for me

My buddy Mark and I got into a huge argument about this last weekend at a diner. He kept saying the 2019 version made Chucky actually scary as a creepy AI doll, but I told him the original franchise was all about that campy humor (you know, like the voodoo and one-liners). The new one felt too much like a Black Mirror episode and lost the soul of the character. I get that they wanted a fresh take, but it just didn't click for me. Has anyone else had this kind of split with a friend over a remake where you just can't see eye to eye?

Oh totally @samk77, what worked for me was just making a joke about it and then changing the subject to what we actually wanted to eat.
