Switched my stance on the Resident Evil 2 remake after playing it with the original soundtrack

I used to say the 2019 version was just flashy eye candy that missed the tone of the 1998 game, but swapping in the old music tracks made the pacing click for me. Has anyone else had a remake change their mind after a simple settings tweak?

Wait, you said the original RE2 from 1998? I thought you were talking about the 2019 version. That's wild. I always figured the old music was just nostalgia bait but you're saying it actually changes how the whole game feels? Makes me want to try it now. I hated the remake's soundtrack personally, way too much ambient drone.

Yeah the "nostalgia bait" thing is funny because I used to think the same until I actually went back and played it. Now I feel like I gotta apologize to my younger self for ever doubting that soundtrack. But hey, at least my bad taste in music from 20 years ago finally paid off for one conversation.

What's funny is how much the old RE2 soundtrack plays with your expectations, doesn't it? I remember booting it up again and realizing the music in the RPD station had this weird upbeat but creepy vibe that made everything feel more urgent. The remake went too quiet and moody, losing that panic feeling. The original made me feel like I was in a zombie movie from the 90s, while the remake felt like I was just walking through a haunted house by myself.
