Caught a movie ripping off a documentary shot-for-shot
Was watching 'The Forgotten Planet' on streaming last night. Realized the opening scene is almost identical to a 1987 BBC doc called 'Alien Worlds.' Same camera angle, same pan across the same desert rock formation. Anyone else notice this with sci-fi films?

That line about "same camera angle, same pan" jumped out at me 'cause it got me thinking. You see this a lot with sci-fi where they basically steal from old nature docs, not just the shots but the whole vibe. Like the way they show alien trees waving in the wind? That's straight from David Attenborough's 'Planet Earth' II, the slow-mo grass stuff. They figure nobody's gonna watch a 40 year old documentary, so they lift the footage and just color grade it weird blue or orange. It's lazy but it works, I guess.

@the_christopher nailed it. That blue/orange color grade trick is so overused it's a meme at this point. Stealing from nature docs is just the easy way out for lazy VFX teams.

Wait, isn't Planet Earth II from 2016? That's not 40 years old, it's barely a decade. Still lazy stealing though, you're right about that.
