Bought a $30 dash cam off Facebook Marketplace, figured it'd be garbage

Honestly, I was just looking for something cheap to shut my wife up about all the bad drivers around here. Found this no-name dash cam from some guy in Austin for $30 last month. The box was all beat up and the instructions were in broken English. I figured I'd get maybe a week out of it before it fried itself. Hooked it up and it actually records clear enough to read license plates during the day. Night vision is pretty rough but I caught a hit-and-run on my street last Tuesday and the footage helped the cops ID the car. Still working fine after 3 weeks with no issues. Has anyone else had luck with super cheap dash cams or did I just get lucky?

Ha, nice! You basically rolled the dice and hit a 7. I love that you caught a hit and run with it, like the cheap cam is out here doing community service to justify its existence. My buddy bought a $25 one off Amazon and the suction cup gave out on the highway, so the thing just swung around and recorded his floor mats for a week until he noticed. Sounds like you got the one unicorn in a batch that didn't melt in the Texas sun.

Did you catch that thing Consumer Reports posted about dash cams a while back? Tbh they tested a bunch of those cheap ones and almost all of them failed in heat or just stopped recording randomly. Honestly it's wild that yours is still kicking, mine melted into a puddle on my windshield last August. Ngl these budget cams are basically a lottery ticket, sometimes you win sometimes you get a plastic brick.
