Appreciation post: Hit 100,000 miles on my old Honda and everyone says to trade it in

My 2008 Civic just rolled over to 100,000 miles last week and everyone keeps telling me it's time to get something new. But that number surprised me because it's actually just broken in, not broken down. I've done all the maintenance myself at my shop and I know every squeak and rattle it makes. A new car would cost me $500 a month plus higher insurance, while this one just needs oil changes and the occasional belt. People act like 100k is some magic death sentence for a car, but that's only true if you skipped the timing belt and fluid changes. My buddy just hit 250k on his accord and drives it daily. Has anyone else ignored the pressure to upgrade and kept a high mileage car running?

My 2012 Fit hit 100k last year and my brother in law was literally shopping for me on Carvana before I told him to stop. $500 a month for a car payment plus another 100 in full coverage insurance just to get something that does the same thing mine does. I changed the spark plugs at 90k and flushed the coolant myself for under 50 bucks total. People act like 100k is a ticking time bomb but honestly most of them are just repeating what their uncle or whatever told them back in 1995.

Nah, 100k is barely broken in. I'd keep that Civic until the wheels fall off. My buddy's 2006 Accord just passed 280k and he still drives it cross country. New car payments are for people who hate having money.
