Took me 4 hours to figure out my Ring doorbell was just talking to my neighbor's wifi

Got a Ring doorbell for Christmas. Set it up finally last weekend. Couldn't get the app to connect to the device no matter what I tried. Finally after 4 hours of resetting and yelling I realized it was pairing to my neighbor's unsecured network 2 houses down. Has anyone else had smart home stuff glitch out like this?

Wait, wait. You accidentally connected your Ring to a NEIGHBOR'S network? That's honestly wild. I've had my Echo Dot sync to my husband's Bluetooth speaker by mistake (like a full 15 minutes of arguing before we figured it out), but this is next level. The unsecured part is what gets me though. Anyone could have just walked by and snagged your doorbell feed. Glad you caught it after only 4 hours, because I would have been pulling my hair out way sooner.

Oh man, I did the same thing with my thermostat once, what a mess!

And then you gotta wonder, what if they had actually used that feed to watch the house? Like, figure out when nobody's home. That's the part that gives me the creeps. My cousin had something similar happen with a baby monitor a few years back, some random person could see right into their nursery. They didn't even realize until the neighbor mentioned seeing a weird van parked out front a few times. Makes you think twice about anything unsecured in your house.
