Guy at the laundromat told me the dryers are mining crypto
Last Tuesday at the Spin City laundromat on 3rd street, some dude in a stained trench coat walks up while I'm waiting for my jeans to finish. He points at the dryer vents and says "you see those? They're not just blowing hot air, they're running hash calculations off the waste heat." He said the owner got paid by some startup to hide the rigs inside the machines. I laughed it off but then I noticed one dryer had a weird LED blinking through the lint trap. Anyone else run into someone claiming everyday appliances are running hidden operations?

Check the circuit breaker box for extra meters bolted on the side.

Could also be a landlord sneaking a sub-meter in there to bill tenants separately without authorization. Seen it happen in old apartment buildings more than people realize.

Ha! I heard some crypto startup was actually doing that with vending machines, but @the_sam's meter theory sounds way more likely.
