Those tire boot patches seemed like a gimmick until I needed one in rural Vermont

I was 10 miles from the nearest gas station on a gravel road and my sidewall got cut by a sharp rock. My buddy handed me a Park Tool TB-2 boot patch and I figured it was just a waste of space in my kit. Has anyone else had one of these hold up for more than 20 miles after the first repair?

Honestly I had the exact same thing happen on a ride up in the Adirondacks last fall. Sidewall got torn up by a loose piece of gravel and I was ready to call it a day until a guy I met on the trail handed me a boot patch. I was super skeptical too but I slapped it on and finished the last 15 miles back to my car no problem. Then I ended up keeping that same patch on for another three weeks of commuting and weekend rides before I finally swapped the tire out. Ngl it held way better than I ever expected for something that looked like a sticker.

Read a review from a bike tourer who patched a tire in Montana. Thing held for like 500 miles. Kits like that are more than just a backup.
