I finally crunched the numbers on my smart home setup and it's depressing

I added up all the receipts from the last 18 months for my lights, plugs, and sensors and the total came to $1,247. That's more than my monthly rent for a house that still can't turn on the hallway light without a 3 second delay. How do you justify this stuff when the basic dumb switches work fine for like $5?

Come on, that $1,247 is nothing compared to the joy of yelling at my house to turn a light on and it actually listening.

Run the numbers on resale value. Most of that stuff is worthless after a year and nobody wants used smart bulbs, so you're basically burning cash for convenience that doesn't even work right.
