My obsession with a complex van electrical grid vanished after a fuse blew in the desert.
Keep it simple; reliability trumps features when you're off-grid.

That's a perspective shift that only happens when the theory meets reality, you know? I used to diagram elaborate systems with inverters and monitors, but a single failed connection miles from anywhere rewrites your priorities real fast. Now everything gets simplified down to its most dependable form.

Honestly, my buddy did the same thing with his off-grid cabin, over-engineered the whole solar setup with redundant controllers. Then a squirrel chewed through one conduit in February and he spent a week melting snow for water. He stripped the system back to basically a battery and a panel after that.

From over-engineered to bare bones, what changed his mind for good?

Rough lesson to learn the hard way. Minimalist systems can save a lot of headache.
