Hit 6 months together and realized we never actually argued about anything real

Me and my ex made it to the half year mark and I thought that was great until I sat down and counted. We had 22 little spats over stuff like leaving the fridge open or forgetting to buy milk, but not one single fight about something that mattered like money or where we wanted to live. That hit me hard because it meant we were just avoiding the big stuff. I told her about it and she just shrugged and said that's how she liked it. Has anyone else realized they were in a relationship that was smooth on the surface but totally hollow underneath?

That's interesting you counted them like that... but I think you might be overthinking it a little. 22 little spats in six months isn't that bad you know? Some couples have that many in a week about the remote.

Oh geez, 22 spats tracked like you're training for the argument Olympics! Next thing you know you'll need a scorecard and a referee for your living room. At this rate you might as well just save time and argue about who forgot to put the milk back.

22 little spats in six months is actually pretty low in my experience, most couples I know have way more than that. But the part that got me is when you told her how you felt and she just shrugged it off like avoiding real topics was something to be proud of. That kind of surface level connection always seems to crack eventually when life actually throws something heavy at you.
