I used to think prenups were just for rich people. Then my ex proved me wrong.

My ex and I split after 3 years together. We weren't rich, just normal people in Philadelphia with a joint savings account and some furniture. She took the TV and half my 401k because we never wrote anything down. Now I see prenups differently. Anyone else find out the hard way that planning ahead matters even when you're not loaded?

Read a story about a couple who split after 20 years and the wife got the house because only her name was on it, even though he paid half the mortgage. Makes you realize it's not about trust, it's about protecting yourself from future you.

Not saying you're wrong, but one story on the internet doesn't mean this is some huge hidden danger everyone needs to worry about. Feels like people love zooming in on the rare worst case scenario.

My buddy paid the mortgage for 15 years and got nothing when they split. Brutal.
