Took me 8 months to realize my ex was just mirroring my interests back at me the whole time
She would suddenly love every band I played, every movie I recommended, even started using my catchphrases. Three days after we broke up I saw her Instagram stories and she was back to hating all that stuff like it never happened. Has anyone else dealt with a partner who seemed way too agreeable?

My buddy Danny from work went through this exact thing with his ex Sarah. She started loving all his weird obscure metal bands and would even wear his band t-shirts to sleep, stuff she never cared about before. Two weeks after they split, he saw her at a party blasting pop music and she told someone she never understood how people could listen to "that screaming garbage." Really messes with your head when you realize the whole relationship was basically them just being a human mirror instead of actually liking you.

That whole "human mirror" thing is exactly right, and it's more common than people think. It's like they don't have a real personality of their own so they just borrow yours to feel like they fit in. The scary part is how long it can go on before you catch on. Eight months is rough, but I've heard stories of people going years before they figured it out. It really makes you question everything because you can't even trust the good memories since none of it was genuine.
