While visiting family in Texas, I sat in on their school board debate over history books

That bit about your town's three hour meeting deciding whether to call the Civil War about states' rights first really gets me. @david755 is right that hiding the KKK is bad, but that phrasing fight feels sneakier. It makes me wonder, after those long meetings, what actually changes in the classroom? Do teachers get new books, or just a list of words to avoid? Because if it's just swapping some terms, kids are still getting the whitewashed version, just with cleaner words.

Appreciation post: My crew's wild guess on a meme stock flipped my whole view on risk

Wait, how much did you actually put into that meme stock before it blew up? I gotta know because that's a crazy way to learn a lesson. @juliahayes is right about needing a scare to change, but man, some scares are way more expensive than others. Switching to automatic buys is smart, but it's rough that it took a freak accident like that to make it happen. Did you at least get out with some profit, or was it a total mess?

A philosophical shift: from wanting more to appreciating enough in my tiny dwelling.

Man, that shift hits home. My place is tiny too, and letting go of the want for more stuff completely changed how I live in it. Used to trip over things I never used, now the space just feels peaceful and mine. It’s wild how much room you actually have when you stop filling it with clutter.

Am I the only one who sorts poetry collections by emotional theme? It revived my writing groove.

My midnight blue section for somber moods is totally my most reached-for shelf now. Honestly did the same thing with my old Sylvia Plath collections last fall and it completely changed my drafting.
