inVent: My boss said our new AI system could do my job in half the time
Honestly, I see it a bit different. A lot of that so called cruelty is just bad communication, not real malice. People are quick to call anything mean now, when sometimes a boss is just stressed or bad at giving feedback. The robot joke is in poor taste, sure, but it's probably just a clumsy way to talk about real pressure from above to cut costs. We're all in a tough spot, bosses included.

inMy team's AI tool flagged 80% of our entry-level tasks for automation
Yeah, that's a tough spot. We had to rebuild our whole content assistant role from the ground up last year. Went from scheduling posts and pulling basic metrics to them now running A/B tests and editing AI draft copy. It's a better job, honestly, but the scramble to train everyone felt chaotic. Good on you for focusing on training instead of just cutting people.

inQuestion about forge welding high carbon steel. I was ready to give up after 5 failed attempts, then tried sprinkling borax on the joint before the final heat.
Grandma's borax trick is a lifesaver. I've saved so many projects with that little sprinkle, it's like magic.

inSaw a weird forge setup at a county fair in Springfield
Sounds pretty sketchy honestly. That uneven heat would drive me nuts. Seen a few janky forges that just aren't worth the risk.

inTrying to color-match a client's 3-year-old home dye job took me a solid 4 hours of strand tests.
Archaeological dig" is so right. I had a friend who tried to cover up old dye like that with a box from the store. It turned this weird greenish gray in some spots, like moss on a rock. She had to go to a real salon anyway and they charged her double to fix it. I mean, sometimes you just have to leave the past buried.
