Learned that lesson the hard way with a slurry pump last year. Started using a suction hose one size bigger than the pump inlet, and it made a world of difference. The extra volume seems to give debris more room to move without getting stuck right at the entrance. Haven't had a single clog-related shutdown since making that change.
