Warning: AI hiring tool flagged me for using emojis in my resume
I applied for a customer support role in Austin last month and their AI screener gave me a low score for putting emojis next to my skills section. The hiring manager told me off the record it was an instant red flag in their system. Has anyone else run into automated filters punishing stuff like formatting or personality in resumes?

Are you serious, an algorithm can't handle a smiley face?

Ngl I think people underestimate how basic some of these AI filters actually are. They're trained on clean text data and anything that's not a standard character can totally mess up the parsing. Honestly it's not that crazy to think a smiley face could break the system if the code wasn't built to handle it.

Maybe it's just me but that hiring manager could have been making an excuse or just didn't want to say they didn't like your resume for another reason. I've heard stories about AI filters being picky but half the time it's just a scapegoat for a human making a snap judgment. Emojis on a resume for customer support seem pretty harmless too, especially if you're applying at a startup or casual company.
