I thought the new ultrasonic crack detection unit was just a gimmick until it found a 0.3-inch flaw in a Cessna 172 spar cap that my dye pen missed.
Has anyone else had a tool they doubted completely change their inspection routine?

That ultrasonic unit finding a 0.3-inch flaw is wild. I was the same with borescopes, thought they were overkill for quick checks. Now I catch early-stage corrosion in hard-to-see actuator barrels all the time. It totally changed how I do my pre-flights.
