I was in a new condo building downtown last week and saw all the sensors were surface-mounted with visible wires. Is that the standard now or should we still aim for hidden runs?

Wait, they left the wires completely exposed? That's so lazy, even for a new build. I'd be pissed if I paid for a condo and they couldn't even hide the sensor cables in the walls.

Reminds me of my old apartment where they just painted over everything. Found a live outlet covered in beige paint, and the bathroom vent was hooked up with what looked like speaker wire. They never even bothered to cut the excess, just left a curly mess hanging above the shower.

Remember when people used to actually finish the job? My uncle's house had a doorbell wire that just ran across the front porch for ten years.
